Swedish intifada.
The predominantly muslim Rosengård subdivision in Sweden's southern city of Malmö is burning. Again. Stones are thrown at the firemen trying to put the fires out. When police are called stones are thrown at them, too. This time the unrest was triggered because a private property company wouldn't extend the lease on a few basement rooms. The organization that rented the basement was Islamiska Kulturföreningen (Islamic Culture Association) using it as a mosque and assembly hall. The lease was terminated already in 2006, but the ICA got several stays and proceedings were not finalized until November 24, 2008. On this date a group of muslim youth decided to take things into their own hands and squatted on the premises. When they were finally evicted a few days ago rioting started. Considering the number of fires started and stones thrown, it's a miracle no-one has been injured or killed. And for what? For the false notion that torching and looting ones own community will somehow persuade a private property company to offer up another basement? To show the Swedish people and authorities that the muslim minority will not integrate, assimilate or be a loyal part of society. But we knew that already.
